This morning we caught a plane to Hoi An which is a little city/town in central Vietnam. It's an old city with about a 100000 people and the atmosphere here is much better than in Ho Chi Minh and its surroundings. There are no beggers or such as it became illegal a few years ago. It's quite touristy and there are heaps of really cheap and good hotels to stay at.
The town is surrounded by sand and it's not far to two big beaches which we will visit tomorrow or the day after. Our airport shuttle dropped us of at a really nice hotel, it wasn't the one we asked to be taken to though and this is something you should be prepared for when you get here. It's common that drivers tell you that the place you asked for is full...either they're lazy or they some how befinit from dropping you off at another one. Our hotel has the same price as the one we had in HCMC but the room is much nicer and it also has a free swimming pool :) This town is known for it's tailors. You can find them EVERYWHERE and the people in the shops are quite good sales men as my bank account soon will show...but at least I will finally end up with some nice shirts and pants which I usually have a really hard time finding and when I do I still have to modify them one way or another to make them fit. We walked through the older parts of the town and I tried a drink made out of pressed sugar canes, it was quite sweet but really refreshing which you need after walking around in about 32 degrees celcius. Tomorrow we're gonna hire scooters and have a look around...i must admit that I've been on a two wheeled moped twice in my life and both times I've been centimeters from driving into parked cars so I'm not really looking forward to it...but three times a charm aye? :) |

Cause you should really never do that. It only makes it even worse for the people coming after you.
And you wondered how they made money from it? The drivers have deals with some of the hotels, that give a small percentage of the rent to the taxidrivers if they drive unsuspecting tourists to that hotel instead of the one they're asking for.
Some hotels even get warned ahead of time, and set up signs with the desired hotels name, to make it look like the hotel the tourists asked for.
